FINDING THE RIGHT SCOLIOSIS SPECIALIST |
|
Finding the right practitioner to treat your scoliosis is crucial. Traditionally, orthopaedic surgeons who are fellowship trained in spine surgery, are considered the experts. In recent years, neurosurgeons have started treating patients. If you prefer a neurosurgeon, be sure they're also spine fellowship trained. Some specialists specialize in pediatrics, while others specialize in adults. Most adult surgeons also treat some pediatric patients, but pediatric surgeons rarely treat adults.
If you're not interested in surgery, you should still probably be followed by a medical doctor, even if you choose alternative treatments. This is especially true for children and teens, as it's important that they be diagnosed for related conditions, and regularly assessed for progression. To find a qualified specialist, visit the links below. When you see a new specialist, ask the tough questions. In addition to the tips below from spineuniverse, be sure the physician you select treats a lot of scoliosis patients. Not all board certified, fellowship trained spine surgeons, specialize in scoliosis. Also, if you've had prior scoliosis surgery, try to find a specialist who has a lot of experience in revision surgery. |
